Guy Doughty

Guy has been involved in higher education since 1989. For the last 15 years he has focused on international education, He began his career as an academic teaching politics, business and public policy at University of Hertfordshire, North London University (now London Metropolitan) and Birkbeck College, London University. In this role he first became involved in international education managing a franchise partnership in Greece. In 2000 he moved to the private sector and as Academic Director of HIBT (part of Navitas), helped to set up the first embedded pathway college in the UK. From there he moved to Kaplan as Dean of Business and later as Director of Business Development at Holborn College. At both Navitas and Kaplan Guy gained valuable experience of managing complex collaborative partnerships. He also developed and had accredited a series of successful undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

 

In early 2011 Guy became a consultant to make best use of his skills and knowledge of international education. Drawing on his experience of international recruitment he spent a year in Nigeria and Kenya as Director of Africa for PFL and has since been working on contracts for a number of colleges in Sri Lanka, Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria as well as helping NCUK (www.ncuk.ac.uk) and LSBF (www.lsbf.org.uk) to establish academic partnerships in Africa and Sri Lanka.

 

Since 2012 he has returned to TNE, academic management and collaborations with a role as interim College Director responsible for setting up Kaplan’s college in Lagos working closely with the Office of Special Advisor of the President. Subsequently, he designed their global foundation course which is being rolled out across Africa & Asia.

As Interim Deputy Vice Chancellor & Executive Director for Cavendish University, Uganda, Guy helped them through a period of restructuring. Guy has published on the role of agents in recruitment in Africa & is currently researching new trends in regional mobility in Africa.

Through these experiences, Guy has gained extensive, detailed knowledge and expertise in various aspects of international education. He has travelled widely on recruitment and business development missions and at various times had regional responsibility for China, India and Africa and is able to help institutions overcome the challenges and make full use of the opportunities in these regions. Guy’s particular specialism is in the field of Transnational Education and collaborative partnerships. Drawing on his academic and professional background in education partnerships, Guy is able help in the development of programmes of study that meet UK and international quality standards and to help in the creation and management of successful academic collaborations.
