Africa Student Recruitment Conference 2013 - Wembley, UK

MGH joined with Worldview Events to provide input to Day 2 of the two-day conference exploring the future of student recruitment in relation to the continent of Africa. Delegates from around the globe descended on Wembley to discuss the issues that impact on student recruitment and how best to work with Africa. It was interesting to note the importance of Africa as a long term recruitment market and how those providers from outside of the UK view recent Home Office immigration policy changes providing potential opportunities to aid their recruitment strategies.

Matthew Hornshaw made a number of presentations relating to the important issues of the day, providing an insight into understanding Africa, working in and with the continent, how partnerships at various levels can benefit all parties and how best to understand culture in order to push business forward. Post study work was high on the agenda and Matthew was joined by MGH associate Chizoba Nsofor of Hallmark Solicitors, an expert in immigration issues, to further explore how the Tier 2 route to post study work can be highlighted to both students and employers to aid student recruitment. Matthew also introduced Dr David Bright, another MGH associate, who gave further insight into partnerships and TNE initiatives and how these can benefit education providers who are looking longer term at Africa as a partner.

Feedback of the day was excellent and it was a pleasure to work with Worldview and so many delegates from the UK and beyond to discuss what is a potential next step as part of many internationalisation strategies. MGH are ploughing forward in setting up links in various African countries and details will follow shortly regarding initiatives in North, West and East Africa.
